Why the need to proselytize at all?
by The Meditator
I have a strong feeling that Harshal is actually Bawa. Same arrogance, same stupidity, same nonsense. Even if not, they both are ‘enlightened’ idiots and brainwashed people who have nothing better to do in life than loot peoples money along with their gang leader.
BTW Harshal / Bawa – a few days back I received a text msg from one of your types to come for “Nadi Pariksha” organised at the devotees home. I never responded. He then called me up and I politely told him that I will not be able to make it. The next day he called me again and I told him clearly that I will not be able to make it. He then asked me to call up my friends to see if they can make it as quite a few slots were vacant !!
Why don’t you guys stand on the road with a begging bowl in hand. Alternatively, as we were told by your enlightened zombie teachers during the basic and advanced courses that Guruji calls the person for the course when the timing is right. So why not use the Guru power to call people for all the great courses that AOL has to offer rather than harassing people by calling them up and sending unwanted text messages. Afterall he has so much power – he can stop rains, he can send text messages to devotees in remote places where there is no signal, he provides battery power to mobiles in case of emergencies, he has sent people to Iraq for charity work without VISA and the devotees have reached there successfully…….the list of miracles performed by Guruji goes on and on. I bow to his highness but I still do not believe in this idiot as I do not want salvation after this life. I love this world and want to be reincarnated again and again till I have learnt my lessons on my own. Why trouble the fake Guru to take away my bad Karma knowing fully well that he will not take away my Karma but only my money.
In fact sometimes I wonder why AOL had to file a case against the owners of this website. HHSSRS would definitely know who the criminals are considering the clout that he enjoys with the heavens. But then realization dawned on me. All those who write against AOL over here were at one time associated with AOL and thus the GURU is protecting them. So all the AOL haters / criminals bow down to this great fake master. So what if he wants to make money. He is protecting all of us and all that he is asking for is protection money.
Editor’s note: This was left as a comment some time ago now, but I felt it deserved its own post because it highlights a key issue which Art of Living has been heavily criticized for and one which really brings out the cult-like nature of the organization.
According to the Vedas, those who follow the teachings are specifically encouraged NOT to try to preach and convert others into followers, but rather to follow the wisdom and work on their own lives, and in so doing they will help to make the world a better place. This is what Gandhi meant when he said “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
This begs the question, why are AoL followers encouraged to do the opposite of what the Vedas say? If Sri Sri really was a true Hindu as he claims to be, shouldn’t he actually follow these simplest of teachings, encouraging his followers to actually work on themselves spiritually rather than instructing them to go out and essentially force his teachings on others by trying to recruit them into his organization? Especially if, as is mentioned in the post, SSRS himself will call the student when the timing is right? Isn’t this further evidence that the whole thing is a complete sham?
Sadly I have a feeling that these will become rhetorical questions, because I am fairly convinced that no one in AoL will come forward and even attempt to answer them. But it is something which definitely needs to be highlighted as another way in which the tenets of Hinduism are abused (in this case completely opposed) to forward SSRS’ agenda.

Working on yourself is hard. The people I met in AOL would rather believe in the so-called magic of their god-man. Meditation can bring up issues for you to examine but the time for examination is limited if you are feverishly running after people to proselytize. Reminds me of the worst that exists in other faiths.
Actually in the Bhagavad Gita Krishna does encourage proselytization.in 18.67 – 18.70. A high reward awaits the devotee who does so. The ISKCON movement drunk in the bliss of krishna invites others to do so also. In AOL its slightly different, the person is offered a way to end his misery and then along the path the guru is placed as being the one who can deliver him.

It will be good to see a financial trail of Money collected, receipts generated (which organisation collected?, Who paid ?), tax returns filed ?, How collections are deployed and where ?, Who decides ?
When did vedas become the ultimate authority on wisdom? There is nothing wrong in proselytizing. It’s the superstition and falsehood and fake miracles they should avoid.
Look at the latest post in Guruphiliac: http://guruphiliac.blogspot.com/
The photoshopped pic of SSRS if hilarious.
This organization should start selling condoms:)

I may or may not believe in Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. He may not be my Guru, but henceforth I will not be bad mouthing any Guru, any human being, irrespective of whether he is right or wrong. My perceptions are my perceptions – they may be right or wrong. I have no right to point fingers at anyone knowing well that there are 3 of my own fingers pointing back at me.
I just want love to prevail everywhere. That’s my self realization.
yes like an ostrich
idealities sound good..but in this world we are forced to judge…an animal in jungle must judge every other…or it will be finished soon…and we are also living in a kind of jungle…we are bound to do that…else we want to stop living..
1 finger 3 fingers is bullshit. (sory i dont have anthng against you personally..of even against ssrs.)
@Meditator
“I just want love to prevail everywhere. That’s my self realization.”
Hope SSRS also becomes self realized like you, so that his love will prevail for this blog.
Ravi Ravi’s AOL has encroached on a lake and cloded it to build a commercial real estate venture called soudhamini. The Karnataka High Court has issued a show cause notice to AOL on tuesday.

Some more news of the great social service from spiritual master:
http://www.dnaindia.com/bangalore/report_karnataka-high-court-issues-notice-to-art-of-living_1599018
The high court on Friday issued notices to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s ashram, Art of Living in a petition questioning the construction of luxurious structures on the water spread area of Udipalya kere in Kaggalipura, Bangalore South.
N Sriram Reddy, an advocate, had filed a public interest litigation seeking a direction from the court to demolish all the illegal structures.
The petitioner contended that for ecological balance in nature, the existing irrigation tanks have to be preserved. He contended that the kere was constructed in 1960 with an intention to provide irrigation facilities to the farmers.
The tank was constructed with a registered catchment area of 42.52 hectares and water spread area of 14.8 hectares. The big tank has become a lake now. No area has been left on the eastern, western or the northern side of the tanks.
The petition alleged that Art of Living acquired the land illegally and constructed many buildings without permission.
It contended that the department of irrigation did not take any action while it was its duty to demolish illegal constructions.
I request all AOL folks and people following Ravishankar to talk to their guru and put a stop to this environmental degradation. Usurping lakes is a very bad thing for the environment. Can someone enlighten Sri Sri Sri Sri Ravi Ravishankar and put a stop to his madness and greed.
@Suraj
It remains to be seen whether Ravi Shankar uses his “enlightened” status or some such personal experience to obtain immunity from the law and prosecution.
If justice is not done then I may remind readers that Maoists and other extreme left wingers are always on the lookout for a toehold anywhere and everywhere in pursuance of their objecctive to come to power by violent means if necessary.
He will pull strings and he knows how to do it. He is an epitome of corruption and knows all the corrupt politicains. The real loosers will be the innocent people around the ashram. The poor people cannot stand up to this mafia.
Ahhh! The issue of money. It appears as a post at least once in every article I have read on this site.
The supporters of this site continuously use the fact that the Art of Living generates funds as a point of contention why Art of Living is “bad,” and followers of the Art of Living always seem to be defensive about the fact that a “spiritual” organisation charges for their services.
Whether the Art of Living charges money or not is irrelevant. Economics is a recognised institution in our society. I for sure charge for my services (and I charge a lot :)). In fact if nurses got paid more than football players like Ronaldo and Rooney more children would aspire to take up careers to assist and serve society. In this light I personally don’t see anything wrong with charging for any service, especially if it claims to benefit society. Even the Church used to tax people for their salvation. There is nothing wrong with making money!
What is suspicious is the defensiveness of Art of Living followers when they are questioned about the finances of their organisation. What is even more pathetic than that is the problem that supporters of this site have with the Art of Living for charging money for their courses.
To supporters of this website – The Art of Living charges money for their courses. So what? Every product and service on the planet has an operations and should charge for their offering. Get over it!
To Art of Living followers – You charge money for what you view as spiritual practices. So what? Stop hiding it and get over it!
Geoff.
You miss the whole point, Geoff. All the issues you raised have been raised and dealt with multiple times in the blog. Either you did not read the blog posts deep enough, or you need to do some serious work on your reading comprehension.
@GeoffDunigham
How much did you got from aol for this service from AOL
Go ahead and charge don’t hide yourself 🙂
@SP
AoL does not pay anyone to visit this blog, they are well aware that any comments on this blog( positive or negative) will increase the SEO ranking of this blog. So they always constantly ignore this blog and also ask the Swami’s and teacher’s to tell everyone to ignore this blog. Some old time devotees too speak about this blog amongst themselves (actually mostly about Klim’s blog) but not publicly, and many of them agree with the stuff that is written here.
Actually if one needs a right analysis of the Art of Living, the best post one needs to go through is The Prosecutor, which is a very balanced post on all the charges about the Art of Living.
Though yes many people go over the board in their accusations out here. And like I have always stressed one needs to have a filter to take the good and leave out the bad.
Aol first started for serving humanity, then stability, then sustainability, then showing ability and now with all those material strength this stupid organization is in to politics.
It is saId in olden days, as part of dispassion and toaintain purity SAGES do not get involved in material Benefit.
If you look at the history all those organization who focus on money are corrupted and also will vanish due to politics. Osho, MMY and next SSRV.
@Geoff
Very few people actually have a problem with Art of Living making money, I personally don’t have a problem with Art of Living making money.
But the problem everyone for sure( I m sure even the pro aol) has is that the money is not being spent on where it is claimed to be spent(charities). Even if a small percentage is spent or where it actually has to be spent, AoL will be worth it, but even that much does not really go there. In fact it goes into the kitty of Sri Sri’s nephews, brother in law, etc etc. Now I personally even don’t have a problem with that, but when they act arrogant and treat volunteers and teachers like personal servants that is when my blood boils and I feel cheated. If I had to follow a hierarchy and had to lick some b*** I would have licked some corporate b*** and made some money instead.
Btw I am an ex AoL full time teacher, who is in the process of rebuilding my career and getting my life back.
I still do respect Sri Sri like before for whatever I have learned from him, but I am moving on now with life. And yes I feel pretty free after coming out of art of living. I feel normal again and very natural too. There were too many concepts, too many notions that one is force fed with in the Art of Living. There is manipulation, there is learning too, but at the same time there is a lot of waste of time also. So I guess now I have a filter, with which I let the good come my way and filter out all the bad( which means the organizational aspects etc ).
For the folks who watch hindi movies, there’s a new movie called Rascals. The movie itself is not great but it has a nice parody of AOL called Art of Giving. It seems even the mainstream folks are waking up to the real nature of AOL.
“Beyond Art of Living”?? he he.. How?? Its all about art of living in here.. 😉
