Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to head “Supreme Spiritual Council”?

HINDU LEADERS UNITE, IF YOU WANT HINDU DHARAMA TO SURVIVE!!!—Francois Gautier

The following is taken from the above article written by AOL in-house journalist. Read it and see the intention of SSRS to become dictator to 850 million Hindus in India and another 150 million Hindus living outside India. He wants the SSRS fatwa (dictat) to be binding also. WOW !!!

The Catholics have their Pope and his word is binding on all Catholics. Muslims have Prophet Mohammed’s words and that binds all of Islam together. Indian Communists have the words of Marx and Lenin, even if it has become irrelevant in Russia, Germany, and also in China. But the poor Hindus have nobody to refer to, so as to defend themselves.

Yet, if you take the combined people power of Satya Sai Baba, Amritaanandamayi, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Swami Ramdev, Guruma of Ganeshpuri, the Shankaracharya of Kanchipuram, and so many others I cannot mention here, it runs in hundreds of millions.

Again, in all humility and conscious of the limitation of mind compared to some of these great gurus whom I have met, I propose that a Supreme Spiritual Council, composed of at least seven of the most popular Hindu leaders of India, be constituted, maybe under the leadership of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the most travelled of all these, the one who has disciples and teachers of all religions, both from India and the West.

It should be a non-political body, and each group would keep its independence but nevertheless. It could meet two three times a year and issue edicts, which would be binding on 850 millions Hindus in India and one billion over the world.

Then and then only can this wonderful spirituality which is Hinduism, this eternal knowledge behind the outer forms, the wisdom to understand this mad earth and its sufferings, be preserved for the future of India, and for the future of humanity.

According to ancient culture, it is said that the Vedas are first or the most ancient among all, In that case do you know why all other religion and holy book formed later?
The so called Brahmins! who kept this knowledge secret and they want to take the lead on this knowledge, the root cause of all religious fight in the current world happened due to holding ancient good knowledge under this cult community called Brahmins and not allowing others to enter or learn or spread, hence many other independent community formed and made boundaries called religion.
If you look at the history of Hindus, Krishna is not Brahmin , the one who wrote holy book Mahabharata & Ramayana is not Brahmin..yet these so called shameless Brahmins of Hindu want to hold these books in their arm pit…
If the knowledge was open for all long ago without cast, the chance of another religion could have been eliminated.. even Krishna was clear on this his birth was to eliminate the cast system of the community.
I don’t know how many of you have noticed that, these days SSRS is promoting Brahmin in ashram, he is not respecting his own Guru MMY because he is not a Brahmin. Hinduism is no religion it is a culture…

In 2006 (25 year AOL celebration)SSRS did best diplomatic marketing to get all other masters and sages under his armpit to rule, it was well planned, he want to showcase other leaders about his achievement in the name of biggest meditation/gathering..angels..etc, however later all of intelligent sages and leaders realized his objectives and almost all moved away..he is now looking for opportunity to get them back again..(This is called corporate business policy). Let us not allow another caste or religion called SRISRISM to happen, enough is enough.

2012 change in the world is all about this… take off the religious boundary and love and care each other, there is no guru no god without you being in love with yourself and others…hence you are the GOD!

I think Francois Gautier says it all with his name: “I am a foreigner and know nothing about Indian culture, Hinduism, Veda or anything else” Otherwise how could he suggest such a stupid thing? A supreme council indeed. Idiotic. Guess he never heard of the Shiv Sena. They’d want to lead that council he proposes, and make up all sorts of stone age rules for women’s dress, appropriate conduct, blah blah blah. It would be political. This man is a fool.

Fracoious Gautier has been touting this idea of Ravi Ravi as hindu pope since last so many years. Getting all these megalomaniac gurus to accept another megalomaniac as their head is not going to work. Especially Ramdev, Jaggi and Ammachi have expressed not so positive views on Ravi Ravi both in private and public. Ravi Ravi’s interfaith encounters has been dismal and pathetic. Refer the Zakir Naik fiasco where Ravi Ravi ended up like a witless idiot.
The closest that comes to hindu popehood is Swami Dayananda who has been having this dharma council and all that stuff but he is nowhere close to being a pope. A composite culture like hinduism cannot have a single figure head as Fracios is proposing. It clearly shows his lack of understanding of dharma and dharmic traditions. I think we need a fatwa against all these idiots who speak on behalf of Hinduism.

I usually don’t agree with Harshal, but he has a point here. Gautier is an outsider with weak understanding of hindu culture, but SP is a bigger idiot who is blinded with rage against brahmins. In todays India, brahmins constitute barely 4-6 percent of population. They have no special provisions favoring them in education or jobs, unlike other castes. They are not large landowners, nor do they own businesses. India is a democracy, and there is not party favoring brahmins, as they are few in number, geographically scattered, and can’t influence elections. There is no indication in scriptures that Krishna, Valmiki or Ved vyas were discriminated agains by brahmins. Valmiki and Ved vyas were given brahmarishi status because of of their deeds, which was the original intent of the caste system.

Agree with Barbarika. There is no need for such animosity against Brahmins. Considering the kind of privileges that the other casts and communities are enjoying, I only feel sorry for the Brahmins. They have to be exceptionally good to get a seat in a college or to get into a job, as most of them are not moneyed people to afford a pay seat or to bribe people to get their work done..

But RS is not a cut from the same cloth. Its a wonder, how a middle class tamil Iyer could come up with such brilliant business ideas!

“maybe under the leadership of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the most travelled of all these, the one who has disciples and teachers of all religions, both from India and the West”

Those who don’t know or who do not do their research will just take this for granted and that great one his holiness SSRS the visionary who will lead us all to freedom.

Remember the three doubts: Doubt in the Master, in his technique and in your self.

With all these bases covered and always stressed in AOL, what is said by the senior teacher (consultants) and the master (CEO) must thus always be true. Cause in AOL you are never suppose to doubt, if you do then certainly don’t voice your doubt.

It is so funny there is a saying Monkey see Monkey do. The building blocks of AOL are based on a Model created by the late Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (MMY) and his whole TM organization SSRS was with MMY for a number of years. MMY actually traveled around the globe and had and still has many famous devotees he was the pioneer. There is nothing original about AOL. Just look online and compare or search this blog. The TM organization is just better at their marketing then AOL. Juts look at their websites. See how they changed the holly tradition to fit their needs and even made a course out of it there is truly nothing sacred.

But SSRS is just a smarter business person he made sure that the course prices were cheaper then those of the TM organization (under cutting the competition). MMY always said people should pay for the highest knowledge. SSRV strategy was to repackage everything bring it to the market at a reasonable and the create volume sales. Create as many teachers who could do his leg work form him. Smart and effective.

One has to create a demand, 101 in marketing. And this is easy enough to do these days as most people are in search for the quick fix to happiness. This is why in TTC the intro talk (as it is in TM) is stressed over and over again …..in it you learn to create the need in a very subtle way and then with skill hook the listener into a part one course.

The most traveled most disciples and teachers, by who’s count SSRS will always be in the shadows of that other organization it is time for him to go into silence again and come out with an original technique and then just give it to humanity, to the world for free. He and his family are already set for life, so giving it for free should not be a hard thing todo.

And I have an idea to settle it once and for all. Lets have a long term research study to determine who has the most effective technique, AOL with their champion Sudrashan Kriya or TM and their time tested TM Sidhis.

I can see both organizations already claiming victory, while leaving in their wake disillusioned devotees broken up families and young capable college grads who gave their all and got nothing to show for expect their masters grace and fake smile…….

@VSS your sincerity is admirable stay true to yourself.

Now you think, ‘let me see how he answers this- there is no way how he can defend this’ . So you keep asking again and again.

You don’t realize that I am not here to entertain your rationality, or to indulge in a logical argument with you. I am just here to entertain myself. There is no point in anyone answering you guys. You are the jury which has already made up its mind, and is look out for any trivial thing which you can pronounce your own verdict.

    • February 23, 2012 9:23 am

      Dear Harshal
your response is a good example of Bhramin ego….or reflection of your master. The so called AOL supporter speeks bad words and insults others rather than evaluating the facts. If you dont have answer then using badwords.. that suits for AOL culture…
By the way i born in Hindu culture…I respect culture not the caste or religion for politics and power, this is what i learnt from Hindhu Dharma..Accept and respect all, love & serve all…
If you are not close to what i say, then acording to me you have learned less about Hindu dharma.

BTW Francois Gautier’s idea of a Hindu council of new age gurus passing edicts on all subjects under the sun is hardly original nor is his angst of spirituality facing threats at the hands of the atheists and materialists.

Jaggi Vasudev of the isha Foundation, a seemingly greater futurist than gautier at any rate, having had this idea first, presided over a guru sangamam, which sought to preserve and propagate the “true” spirituality to the ignorant masses and at the same time protect it from the materialists and “false” gurus. LOL And guess what, baba ramdev, the kanchipuram shankaracharya and Guruma made it to that council also.

    http://blog.ishafoundation.org/sadhguru-spot/guru-sangamam-a-confluence-of-gurus/

Question is, both HHSSRS and Jaggi Vasudev have the “oneness” experience of enlightenment, and both were closely associated with Rishi Prabhakar in the past. Both teach the same stuff and both denied their own masters. So in the event that such a council does form, gautier is going to have to take a call on who is going to be number 1 amongst both these “oneness” gurus. He might have a devotee instigated riot on his hands, if one party feels it’s been discriminated against.

Hey harshal, do you think gurus believe in democratically held elections to elect leaders or maybe you can finally reveal to the world the test of enlightenment that HHSSRS passed that gautier presented him as enlightened amongst the enlightened. ROFLMAO

I wonder why the dude at hinduawaken.com chose to post this article six years after it appeared in rediff.com

    http://www.rediff.com/news/2006/jan/09franc.htm

But dates apart, if such a council of gurus did come into being, it would be interesting to see what their agenda would be since in contemporary Indian society there are any number of hindu samitis, sanghas and sanghathans all of whom are dedicated to preservation and propagation of the hindu dharma and protecting it from the machinations of the Muslim fundamentalists and Christian missionaries.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hindu_political_parties

The biggest of these groups are ofcourse the RSS and its offshoots the VHP and bajrang Dal.So far none of the leaders of the RSS or VHP claim enlightenment in the sense HHSSRS and the others have, and who for most part lay stress on Hindu nationalism and identity issues of a more militant kind rather than involving in the more, apparently and self stated, philosophical and soteriological pursuits of their “enlightened” counterparts.

SSRS is seriously ill, as is this French journo. It’s been 10 years since I moved out of AOL, and am on this blog after almost a year, if not more. This post has left me sooo amused. SSRS has gone completely nuts to be making such a proposal. If I’m not mistaken, Maharishi was also on some such trip. Like wanting to be a world president, or something like that. He even went to the extent of printing his own currency. so, SSRS is following in his footsteps. When I read this, I realized how blessed I am to have moved on. I cant imagine that I was part of such a cult. And these nutty cult members will now get into a frenzied state to make/ declare him a Hindu Pope. And in the process, will make utter fools of themselves in the outside world. Aolites dont seem to realize that the Pope is now redundant. And even Emperor Akbar fancied himself to become founder of a religion, Din- i-llahi, and never succeeded. Despite having the kind of resources and clout , he failed. And in today’s world of the internet, if SSRS thinks he can pull this off, then he’s gone completely mad! Anyway, his antics are a great source of amusement. Hope he never stops!!

  11. February 23, 2012 9:59 am

this is serious? i always saw the beauty of hinduisem in its diversity and the lack of a ‘ pope’.

If “in-house” journalists are coming up with such BIZARRE suggestions, it can only mean that AoL has no vision. No organization, spiritual or otherwise, can survive without a practical and rational long-term goal. There will never be a “Spiritual Council” of this nature, nor will it have a head like SSRS. Spiritualism does not require administration, policies, rules and regulations.

AoL has been successful in tapping into anxiety in people — through shrewd marketing strategies and fake sweet talk. But that’s not working. If anything can revive its fortunes, it has to be actions that are less bizarre and not more bizarre.

SSRS needs Hinduism. It’s not the other way round. It would be a colossal mistake on his part to think that it’s the other way round. No individual can be bigger than any religion. Nor can a cult take over a religion. It has never happened.

If it had to happen, it would have happened a long time ago, and, it would have happened all over the world. We would have countless examples of different cult leaders taking over different religions.

AoL is in need of a make-over, if it has to survive. If this is the make-over, then it has failure written all over it. Perhaps “in-house” journalists need to come up with better strategies. It seems like they’re simply not doing their work properly. If they were doing their work properly, first those who have left AoL would be inspired to return to it, and then, new people would be inspired. At the very least, a new idea or suggestion must at least inspire those who are reading it.

This entire idea of a “Spiritual Council” is not just bizarre and impossible, but boring, uninteresting, and uninspiring too. It’s not even an eloquent ode to megalomania. I don’t think Francois Gautier is enjoying his work. He sounds bored. He sounds like he has run out of ideas and is just looking for a way to somehow complete his work so that the people he reports to don’t get suspicious. It just doesn’t seem like he put his heart and soul into his words. He might even be depressed. Maybe his depression is making him delusional. Who knows.

Most AoL defenders, at least on this blog sound delusional. They ask for proof when everything posted on this blog is so obviously heartfelt that it is moving beyond measure. They say that SSRS does not indulge in unethical practices even when he’s selling “enlightenment” for a fee to anyone who can pay. It’s almost as if enlightenment is a product — like a shampoo or a deodorant. They say he cares for his people, when in over 30 years, the only people who are visible (other than him) are Bawa and Dinesh, and his sister. They say he doesn’t force Hindu rituals on people from other religions when on Mahashivaratri, there was 24-hour chanting of Hindu mantras in his ashram, at a time when several people from several religions were visiting. They say AoL makes better people out of people when all that they do is misbehave on this blog because they are so stressed out! It never seems like any of the meditation etc. works for them. They sound like they have never known any peace. None of them ever sound compassionate or sensitive or humane. On the contrary, they’re ill-mannered and offensive. I used to think that whatever AoL might or might not do, at least it’ll make people more courteous and better-behaved. But I was wrong.

Now, in response to this comment too, someone from AoL will post some offensive comments. Someone who claims to be involved in the task of making society “stress-free” will create stress. The disconnect between words and actions in AoL is so colossal that I often wonder if AoL stands for anything at all.

“My relationship meant everything to me. It was the only dream of mine that had truly come true. It was my only tryst with bliss. It was my most precious gift from the universe. For the first time in my life, I was happy. I had always asked the universe to reveal my soul mate to me. I was ecstatic to find my answer in someone I respected, loved, cherished, and celebrated”

You are the one who is delusional-…. You think you are going to get him back this way? By writing about it on these blogs? by blaming AOL for it? He doesn’t seem to have any problem with his life, and your problem his that he doesn’t have any problem. You think that he lives in an unreal world? really?. You met him for what 10 minutes one day?? Is that enough to judge? @JA

you wouldn’t have seen Jaggi with rishi prabhakar either.

Yes, Isha guys think their guru is the best because a) he has three enlightened lifetimes behind him b) he has consecrated the dhyanalinga, the only such in the world, which can give you enlightenment c)he can open up the entire cosmos with his ring finger d)everything in isha is an experiential possibility including buying sambar powder, made by volunteers, in their divine shop.

Apart from that Jaggi was once married, but his wife passed away by mahasamadhi during the consecration of the dhyanalinga.

Anyway jaggi could only consecrate the dhyanalinga thanks to his being a grihastha at the time of the consecration, since there is a verse in the divinely revealed Rig Veda that only a grihstha can consecrate a dhyanalinga. However don’t bother looking for this verse in the rig veda, since 90% of he rig veda exists in unwritten form and the 10% written down Rig veda dosn’t have this verse. Also don’t bother to go looking for a reference for the dhyanalinga because none exist in the hindu scriptures still extant.

There are several similarities also. Both jaggi and HHSSRS are from nearby places such as Mysore and bangalore. Both charge money to teach people spirituality and no one in either isha or AOL has achieved enlightenment yet apart from the head honchos themselves.
